Customer Service Representative / Paratransit Operator

Coast RTA is seeking to fill the position of Customer Service Representative / Paratransit Operator.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
This position is vital in that the Customer Service Representative / Paratransit Operator is often the first
line of communication with the public by telephone and in person. It requires the ability to deal with
people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when
confronted with emergency, unusual or dangerous situations. Able to communicate effectively with the
maintenance department when repairs are needed. Obtain the ability to operate a wheelchair accessible
Goshen Van and the associated lift. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations
of the Drug and Alcohol policy.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist customers in a friendly, courteous, helpful manner. This includes assisting persons with disabilities onto and off the wheelchair lift, with safety restraints, and as requested by the customer.
  • Acts as a front-line point of contact to ensure delivery of quality customer service.
  • Complies with all company safety rules and operates assigned vehicles.
  • Complies with all state and local laws pertaining to the operation of the vehicle.
  • Safely and efficiently utilizes equipment on buses, including fare boxes, wheelchair lifts, radio, and emergency equipment.
  • Submits reports, verbal and written, on accidents or incidents as required.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure bus and equipment is in safe, proper working condition.
  • Makes effective independent decisions based on experience, training and policies.
  • Ensure that all routes pull out on time
  • Assign route documents/equipment on sign out/sign in sheet
  • Responsible for data entry, customer call processing, and giving out information to customers in relation to Coast's programs and services.
  • Responsible for dispatching calls to the appropriate department or person.
  • Receives information related to customer complaints and forwards that information to the appropriate person for processing.
  • Monitors and dissects emergency situations.
  • Monitors route delays for on-time performance
  • Ensure that standby personnel are accounted for and utilized appropriately
  • Dispatcher will recommend and document disciplinary action to management personnel.
  • Documents attendance and enforces uniform policy for all operators
  • Monitors and communicates to operators potential route or weather hazards and any changing conditions that could affect route efficiency
  • Interface with maintenance department to accomplish roadside assistance Other duties as assigned
