Coast RTA to Announce New and Expanded Service to Start May 1 in Socastee and Georgetown County

Conway (SC) – Beginning on May 1, Coast RTA is beginning new service in Horry County and Georgetown County as part of the Authority’s new Service Improvement Plan for the region.

In Horry County, Coast RTA is extending its Route15 South service from Market Common to Tidelands Hospital in Murrells Inlet, via Socastee Boulevard/707.  Route 15 South currently originates at the Ivory Wilson Transit Center in Myrtle Beach, continues along Ocean Boulevard south to Market Common, serving Myrtle Beach International Airport.  The new route extension will continue to Farrow Boulevard serving the new Veterans Administration (VA) facility on Airport Boulevard, through the Route 17 Bypass intersection and continue along 707 until it reaches its destination at Tidelands Hospital.  Bus frequency will be every 60 minutes along the entire alignment.

In Georgetown County, Coast RTA will be introducing a new local Route 14 that will provide bus service from Andrews to the City of Georgetown, the Maryville Community and Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC). With a 90-minute frequency, Route 14 will stop in the West Georgetown Industrial Park on 521, Sampit Park, Eight Oaks Recreation Center and West Georgetown. Route 14 will meet Route 16 with service to the Waccamaw Neck and Myrtle Beach at the Georgetown Transfer Center on Lynch Street near the Georgetown Piggly Wiggly.

Additionally, Coast RTA is enhancing its rural service on US 701 in both Horry and Georgetown Counties by adding additional trips.  A new schedule will be developed for Route 4 (formerly Route 16/16X) with service to Plantersville, the Choppee Road Recreation Center, and Pleasant Hill connecting the Georgetown and Conway transfer centers.

Frequency of service will be enhanced to every 90 minutes on Route 16 Myrtle Beach – Georgetown, which provides improved access for commuters from the Georgetown Transfer Center along the Waccamaw Neck to 79th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach.  This service is designed to provide more options to get workers to jobs along the Grand Strand.  The service begins in Georgetown at 6am and runs Express and Local service daily.

Coast RTA is working to install new numbered bus stop signs along all new routes, providing customers the opportunity to utilize the “Text Stop ID” program for bus arrival times.

“This expanded service is designed to create more opportunities to take residents to jobs, shopping and medical appointments,” states Brian Piascik, General Manager.  “Coast RTA is committed to be a true community asset in our region.”
